Rehabilitation of Health Facilities in Amhara and Afar Regional States, Ethiopia
1. Background
Because of the war which has been going on for more than a year in the norther part of the country, people have fled from the war-torn zones and have joined IDP camps. There, they had neither enough food nor non-food supplies. Those people in the war zones have been faced with tremendous challenges and miseries.
The report released by the Government in December 2021, has disclosed that all the health institutions found in the conflict zones have been looted and demolished. To put the damage numerically, 40 hospitals, 453 health centers, 1,850 health posts and 466 private health institutions that were found in 82 woredas of Amhara Federal Regional State have been damaged and their equipment has been looted; and the remaining facilities have been made dysfunctional. Similarly, in Afar Regional state 5 hospitals, 66 health centers and 282 health posts have been damaged and their equipment has been looted.
3. Major Objectives
 Reducing morbidity and mortality of children and mothers as well as other patients due to lack of health services through rehabilitation of the health care facilities that have been completely or partially demolished due to the war in Amhara and Afar regions.
4. Project Scope
The main focus of this project is limited to rehabilitating health centers and health posts only. It may latter on include supporting hospitals and other services as need be.
Accordingly, the project will rehabilitate
 12 / twelve/ health centers and 24/ twenty-four/ health posts in Amhara region.
 3/ three/ health centers and 6/ six/ health posts in Afar Region.
5. Implementation Cost : Total implementation cost will be 18,096,000.00
The major spending of the project will be on the supply of medical equipment and medication to the war- damaged institutions. Some limited spending will also be allocated for renovation as need be.

6. Project Implementation Time
This project shall be implemented from January 29, 2022 to April 28, 2022 in a period of three months.
